Silicone vs Datec Heating

Create Innovative Heating Solutions for a Wide Range of Applications That Can Be Printed Directly onto Substrates.

Stop Using Silicone Rubber and Achieve Better Results with Datec Thick Film Technology

Print Directly on Aluminum, Mica, and Glass

Datec has thick film technology and patented pastes that enable our engineers to create high-performance, cost-effective heating solutions for a wide range of applications.

Not Familiar with Thick Film? Here’s What You’re Missing out On:

Rapid Heat-Up and Thermal Cycling

Get 2-3 times faster heat-up and 20% faster thermal cycling with thick film. The fast, precise, and ultra-efficient heating you need, when you need it.

Uniform and Reliable

Datec thick film heats consistently and evenly on aluminum, glass, and steel. Dependable heating with no hot or cold spots.

Temperature Precision

Thick film heating elements reach the exact temperature you need faster than Kapton® Polyimide heaters.

High Voltage Applications

With high-voltage options up to 5000V of dielectric strength, thick film technology is a versatile heating solution.

Watt Density

Our patented sol-gel thick film technology has 2-10x the watt density of other heating elements, like Kapton® Polyimide.

Max Temperature

Datec thick film has a high max temperature of 240°C, surpassing the capabilities of other thick films.

Direct Bonding

No adhesives required. Our heating elements can be printed directly onto most substrates, including aluminum, mica, steel, and glass. Save space, materials, and cost with thick film.

Mica-TF® Thick Film Mica-Based Heater

Our mica-TF® technology is comprised of resistive and conductive thick film paste that we screen-print directly on mica to create an advanced thermal component. The result is reliable, uniform, and cost-effective heating.

When Should You Choose Datec Thick Film Over Silicone Rubber?

Datec thick film prints directly onto surfaces, resulting in better heat transfer and excellent surface bonding. Silicone rubber requires adhesive to bond, which fails over time, creates hot spots, reduces thermal transfer, and leads to the eventual failing of the heater.

  • Printing on Flat Surfaces

  • Require Operating Temperatures Over 200°C

  • Need Higher Watt Density

  • Want Faster Heat Up and Cool Down

How Do We Do It?

Datec materials are broadly compatible because of our low processing temperature (under 400°C) that allows our heater circuits to be deposited on materials like aluminum and aluminum alloys with low melting temperatures.

The inherent flexibility of the heater microstructure also allows heaters to be deposited on substrates with high CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion).

Need a Custom Solution? We Can Do That.

The Datec team develops application-specific, high-performance heating solutions using a methodical and collaborative approach. It starts with gaining a full understanding of specifications and requirements.

We work quickly and thoroughly to provide assessments, project plans and product samples that allow you to seamlessly integrate our solutions into your products.

Product testing, qualification, and manufacturing are done in our state-of-the-art in-house lab facilities.
